None of us knew about music. After some research, I found different instruments, some completely different from the guitar and others to understand how to play notes. I was interested in chords and base notes to be able to play a piece. I finally combined the Melodica a wind instrument with a piano and classical guitar neck.
To get feedback on this first idea, I drew it. Then I presented this prototype to the class. The most interesting feedback came from those who knew how to play music. Andy, for example, was able to confirm to me that this prototype was feasible.
At first, it was very difficult for me to get away from the original guitar. Thanks to the what if questions, I was able to move away from this first idea and find other inspirations with other instruments.
The outcome of the questionnaire was that multiple people thought a guitar needs to have stings to be a guitar. We will look back in a few weeks to see if it is necessary to have strings to be a guitar.
I sketched some weird looking guitars, for example one with multiple necks (wouldn't be really playable).
To get a general idea what a guitar is I wanted to know what the rest of the class though about guitars. Espasially when is something a guitar or not anymore.
We just started to get used to each other and our group dynamic started to form.
The outcome of improvising with different tools on a guitar was surprising. We asked Andy (experienced) and Asle (inexperienced) to play the guitar. You could see that Asle mainly tried to make some music and Andy also used two tools at the same time to determine tone heights.
This week it was important to understand the guitar at all. Today I started with a real guitar.
We all worked individually and I used the knowledge of my fellow students to test my prototype. As a team, we tried to gather enough insights to be able to bundle them together later on.
